Outreach Pastor: Mark
Me and God - Jesus yanked me out of a self-destructive life of drug and alcohol abuse and he’s been healing my soul ever since - that’s why I worship and follow him. A simple prayer I repeat almost every day goes something like this, "God, show me your perfect will for my life. Let me see what you want me to do with absolute clarity, and then give me the courage to follow you wherever you lead." I highly recommend that prayer to anyone - God answers that prayer, and what an amazing adventure life has been!
Family - Karen and I will celebrate our 18th anniversary next New Year's Eve! Our kids are native Coloradans (our cat and pup too!) even if the two of us are transplants. Most of our family is spread all over the country - nice excuse to travel.
My day job - I'm the Outreach Pastor which means my job is to get people "out" of the church and into our community serving others and sharing God's love. I worked in the business world for 20 years before becoming a pastor.
What floats my boat - Climbing 14ers, skiing, hiking, rock climbing, camping, mountain biking – all things outdoors – I love Colorado!
Hometown - Chicago
How did I get here? - Via a 24-foot U-Haul loaded with whatever worldly possessions were left after a HUGE yard sale eleven years ago.
Last few books I read - The Count of Monte Cristo. Les Miserables - amazing story of redemption!
Favorite authors - Phillip Yancey and CS Lewis.
On my current playlist - Gillian Welch, T-Bone Burnett, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, U2, Blind Boys of Alabama.
Life verse from the Bible - This must be it, because I find myself thinking about it a lot. It speaks of God's detailed plans for our lives. Acts 17:26-28 - "From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being."
Most embarrassing moment - The unintended "streaker" incident: Once when I was five, I came out of the shower with a towel wrapped around my waist. I flexed my muscles and stuck out my chest to impress my older sisters. The towel dropped. I ran. I can still hear my sisters laughing…
If money was no object I would…
Work for no pay - Give away as much as I possibly could - travel to every Olympic Games with my family.
